Quick death

I was let go. No heads up. No nothing. Nada.

My boss (ex-boss, now) pulled out a chair, sat himself down and cut to the chase, “Your service is no long needed.”

He was as cool as Leon, the Professional.
I was as Zen as Jiro, the Sushi Master.

Truth is, I saw it coming. Months ago. Miles away. My sixth sense.

It’s over long before it’s over. It’s done before it needed undone.

But (the magic word in storytelling), it’s the new beginning.
The end of my Act 2, for now.

Like Jack Dawson said, “When you’ve got nothin’, you’ve got nothin’ to lose.

Hear, hear.
There was no fear.
Only freedom.
And I smell it.

Clap your hands.
Rock your body.
How ’bout a round of… George Michael’s Freedom!

Let’s have another round tonight.
Raise a glass to freedom
Something they can never take away
No matter what they tell you
Raise a glass to the four of us
Tomorrow there’ll be more of us

Oops, my bad.
I meant LLM’s The Story of Tonight.

The only way to get rid of pain is to go through it. Not around it.

Feel it. Own it. Beat it. And fuck it.

I’ll see you on the other side.

Yours truly,

PS. I asked him to sign a book on him before he left the office. He did. Just his name. I later added the date: August 10, 2018. Why not?
